I have looked at a number of ways in which the new IEE 802.11ac wifi standard will begin to affect users of Apple devices, particularly when more of these begin to appear around September this year.

While Apple has made an announcement about its own Airport Extreme Router which is available now, other devices are coming on the market as well.

An article on HelpNet Security has some information about the new NetGear R6100 WiFi router that is 802.11ac capable. The article also has information about the NetGear genie app (iOS, Android, Mac and PC) that allows easier network management, that like Apple's Airport Utility allows the setting up and control of networks from a mobile device.
