I have put online the marks for the posters and the 20/20 presentations. The figures you see are in raw percentage form and I will adjust these later to give a proper weighting to each project.

Extended deadline and a condom museum

The deadline for Writing Project 2 has been extended to ensure that students consult with me while writing: no consultation zero marks.

In addition I read that the Department of Medical Science, which tests condoms, has opened a condom museum at the premises in Nonthaburi.

Writing Project 2

Ladies and gentlemen, if you remember I canceled the class time to give you flexibility and allow you to find me so that we could consult about your writing.

There have been few visits so far.

The project purpose is not to produce a perfect text, but to give you a real-life experience of writing and the improvement process (as well as reminding you about safety in this case). Help from your parents, your brothers, your sisters, your friends in International programs, teaches you NOTHING.

Making mistakes, being advised, making progress, and allowing me to teach you, may give you something that you can use for the future.

MP4 marks now online

I have now completed marking the movies that you did for the class. There were some good ones and some that did not make as much effort as I hoped. And there were a couple of unusual surprises. I have now calculated the real marks using the formula of 10-20-25 and as I suggested in class, no one from BE, CE, EC or EE should have any worries about grades.

Partly as a result of my error with the previous deadline posting, I have been persuaded by students to change the deadline of the MP4 project.

The new deadline is 30 August 2010 at 12:30 pm.

20/20 Marks now Online

I have put the marks for the 20/20 presentations online now. These are in percent format (%) and will be adjusted later for the entire spectrum of marking (posters, mp4, plus writing projects).

I have been busy organising the printing of the posters which are now all ready for you to put on the walls and columns tomorrow (Wednesday 28 July).

I have also put the collection of images online and you can view them -- thumbnails and larger size -- now. There are several options for viewing - grid, mosaic, carousel and slideshow.

EGID 490 - EE Deadline changes

Students in CE and BE should not worry about this. Your writing tasks will come later.

For EE students, there are some changes to the deadlines for the project proposal, Draft 1, Draft 2 and Draft 3. They have all been moved to give you and me more time.

Draft 1 is now due at 4pm on Wednesday 11 August
Draft 2 is now due at 1pm on Thursday 26 August
Draft 3 is now due at 1pm on Friday 3 September.

Please pass this on to your friends in EGEE 490.

Please also pass on the point that going to my house for counselling is not compulsory. What is compulsory is that students meet the deadlines and sometimes things are not convenient.

Posters

As I told you last week, the posters will be put on the walls of floor one at the Faculty of Engineering starting at 12:15 on Wednesday 28 July 2010. It is hoped that the Vice-president of the university will attend.

I will collect the posters from the printer and you will put them on the walls. Aj. Waressara asks that you use adhesive that can be removed easily.

With the poster, you should also attach a card with the course details (EGID 490 - English Communication for Engineers), your student number and your name (in English please as it is an English course). This will help the teachers who mark the project.

Deadline MP4 project

The deadline for submitting completed MP4 files to me is 13:00 Monday 16 August 2010.

The deadline for making a decision on the MP4 project subject is 13:00 Friday 30 August 2010.

Videos will be 10 minutes in length and will use the MP4 file type. Do not change from the subject we agree on.

Deadline - Posters

The deadline for the poster project is 9 July 2010 at 13:00. By that time, I want a disk with files from all students in each group: one disk each from BE, CE and EE.

The files should be in .TIFF format. The images in the files will be of your poster. This will be 20 inches x 30 inches (or 30 x 20). Be careful if you use layers, in Photoshop the command you will need is Group Layers. This will reduce the size of the file for printing. As a guide, posters are normally around 20MB.

Deadline - 20/20 project

The first deadline for this project -- 20 slides, 20 seconds each slide -- is the choice of the presentation subject.

You must come to me by 13:00 2 July 2010 and tell me your subject. The presentation should be on something you KNOW, so that you do not rely on memory.

The presentations will start on 12 July (13 and 14 for CE and EE) and will run through the following week, 19 July (20 and 21)

Notes on Day 1 (CE and EE)

This week we had the first class with CE students and on Wednesday morning with EE students.

The students from CE were on time, but many students from EE were late. Some of those students had some really poor excuses for their lateness.
The first thing for all groups concerns the notes to the course. Use the link here to download the PDF outline which is a link on the page.

We started to create the resume (C.V.) which is due in class next week in a wonderful state of design+data. I should be speechless as a reult of your talent. If not, I will be giving you advice individually.

The poster project has the subject Drug Abuse. It is your job to design and create a 20 x 30 poster that covers this theme and have it ready for me in .TIFF format on a disk. I will tell you the date later, but it is likely to be near the end of this month (June).

The major project this half of the semester concerns the presentation in the 20/20 format: 20 slides, 20 seconds each slide. The subject will be something you know about, but you MUST confirm with me so that I can check for suitability and to guard against duplication.

After the mid-terms exams, you will submit to me a movie of 10 minutes. The subject is open (but check with me for the same reasons as above). The file format must be MP4. Remember it is an English subject.
