It is Friday 4 November and on Tuesday I decided to keep a flood diary, partly to keep myself sane. I had two more pages of notes about living in the flood and was ready to post these and some more photographs. I will keep these to refer to for myself. Perhaps there was too much anger in the pages.

I just finished the marking of the final exams. The highest mark was 255 with several students in both groups 200+. Several students in both groups had less than 100. Some students in both groups had 100 just for the writing (Q4).

The only thing left is the writing project.

I have just put online the marks for the oral tests today (Friday 11 Feb., 2011). The marks plus totals are shown for you to have a full idea of your position. Some students, especially those whose names are marked in red, should consider the option of W (Withdraw) as their point scores are low and this could lead to a grade of F if scores for writing and the Final Exam are also low. The students with marks below 270 seem most at risk.

That completes the reading test and the marking. I am preparing the final exam right now which has the usual problems for you: vocabulary, prepositions, reading (+questions) and writing. Read the questions carefully: understanding the question is important (some of you do not do this so lose marks -- like in the reading test). Take care when you write: simplicity of sentences is a good idea. Check your grammar: if you do not, I will.

The image for the writing project is available via this link. The subject concerns production of Ethanol from Cassava (tapioca). Write about each of the 7 sections one by one (go down the list). For section 7, work from left to right. Separate the actions.

No conjunctions, no contractions, and sentences with a MAXIMUM length of 10 words. Organise the ideas, then concentrate on the grammar. Do not translate as this will bring in too many problems for you.

The deadline for this writing is Friday 19 September at 12:00.
