This was not well done. For a section of the course that carries 10% of the course marks, I expected a better effort. I still have the MP4 files to look at and there is the Final exam.

That completes the reading test and the marking. I am preparing the final exam right now which has the usual problems for you: vocabulary, prepositions, reading (+questions) and writing. Read the questions carefully: understanding the question is important (some of you do not do this so lose marks -- like in the reading test). Take care when you write: simplicity of sentences is a good idea. Check your grammar: if you do not, I will.

The image for the writing project is available via this link. The subject concerns production of Ethanol from Cassava (tapioca). Write about each of the 7 sections one by one (go down the list). For section 7, work from left to right. Separate the actions.

No conjunctions, no contractions, and sentences with a MAXIMUM length of 10 words. Organise the ideas, then concentrate on the grammar. Do not translate as this will bring in too many problems for you.

The deadline for this writing is Friday 19 September at 12:00.

The deadline for the MP 4 project is Monday 22 September 2008 at 1 pm (13:00). This is an individual project and the submission should not be less than 5 minutes. Year 4 students (or others) should not give me something you have used in another course (like EGID 490).

The reading text this week is about the Chernobyl nuclear power station that was destroyed in 1986. Not only were vast areas of the USSR and Europe affected, but the problems were one more thing that added to the end of the Soviet State.
